How to remove limescale from your shower screen (and stop it coming back)
Share
On the Costa Brava the water is hard, and limescale shows up fast. In the 500+ apartments and homes we've cleaned, the shower screen is one of the first things a guest looks at. This is our method.
What you need
- A limescale remover (in our Bathroom Pack we use BEST, a scented descaler).
- One clean microfibre cloth and one dry one.
- A non-scratch scourer (use the sponge side).
- Gloves.
Step by step
- Wet the screen with warm water to soften the dirt.
- Spray the descaler from top to bottom and leave it for 2-3 minutes (don't let it dry).
- Scrub with the soft side of the scourer, focusing on the frames and the bottom edge, where most limescale builds up.
- Rinse well with water.
- Dry with the microfibre cloth. This is the step that makes the difference: if the water dries on its own, the white spots come back.
How to stop it coming back
- Wipe the screen with a squeegee or the microfibre after every shower: 20 seconds.
- Ventilate the bathroom so the moisture doesn't linger.
- Do a quick descaling once a week instead of waiting for it to build up.
Mistakes we see all the time
- Using a green scouring pad on glass: it scratches.
- Mixing descaler with bleach: never mix cleaning products.
- Using descaler on marble or natural stone: acids damage it. Always check the label.
Everything you need for the bathroom comes in our Bathroom Pack.
